Proposal for the Development of a Psychometric Test for Measuring Creativity

Abstract

In this article it is tried to create a cognitive model of creativity, inspired in conexionist nets and the activation and conectivity concepts, characteristic of the information processing theory. Starting from this model an activity denominated "To create a fantastic animal", which could be part of a future test of creativity, has been built. This way has been tried to integrate two traditionally separated approaches: psychometrics and cognitive psychology. So, the analyses of validity (correlation with the Torrance measurements and differences between the scores of university students and a group of young writers) are also considered as evidence in favor of the proposed model. Besides being obtained valuable information in favor of the model, the correlation patterns suggest an explanation about processes that underlyie the dimensions proposed by Torrance (fluency, flexibility and originality). Finally, additional analysis suggests structural differences in the form that the creative and not creative fellows organize or visualize the information.
