Abstract

This article presents the results of a study which analyzed 10 cases (8 female and 2 male) aged between
two and 17 years, with a number of bone defects, and conducted over a period of three months in the external
fixator Clinic National Children's Hospital. Aimed to provide a clear vision about the need of this pediatric
population to have a consultation with Clinical Nursing. The exploratory study was conducted using an
observation guide and interviews with users, parents and interdisciplinary team, and implemented the nursing
segmented into three stages: pre-consultation, consultation and post-consultation, evaluating each the problems
and needs of each user (a), as well as the achievements of the children in this research and the role played by the
nurse in the consultations. The results show specifically the educational aspects in physical and emotional health
nurse that gave the users and their families and at-hospital benefits through the implementation of the nursing. We
conclude that children participating in the study achieve proper assimilation and implementation of health
education regarding: skin healing fixer, signs and symptoms of infection, operation keys, administration of
antibiotics, plaster care and healthy food choices. In addition, awareness was achieved in children and their
parents in monitoring medical indications allowing satisfactory results in treatment.
