About the Journal

APPROACH AND SCOPE 

Estudios journal is a free, open access publication of the School of General Studies of the University of Costa Rica. The journal is published every six months. Its objective is the publication and dissemination of inter and transdisciplinary academic and scientific production that includes a humanistic approach. Traditionally, the journal has been interested in the humanistic areas of philosophy, literature and history, specifically Costa Rican history, Latin American history, universal history and cultural history. 

This publication is oriented to students, teachers, researchers and the general public. Estudios journal publishes academic articles, thematic dossiers, reviews, biographies, documents of historical interest and lectures related to the topics of interest of the magazine. The journal is open to submissions of documents in Spanish and English original and unpublished. 

The Estudios Journal does not request or charge any economic fee for the reception, processing or publication of articles.

Estudios journal has several sections. The peer-reviewed sections include the academic articles and the thematic dossiers. The non-reviewed sections include biographies, bibliographical reviews, documents of historical interest and lectures related to the topics covered in the journal. 

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY 

The periodicity of the journal is six-monthly: the first issue covers the months of June to November, the second issue, the months of December to May. Depending on the number of articles received, the magazine publishes one special issue per year.

Interoperability 

The journal follows an interoperability protocol (OAI-PMH: Open Archives Initiatives - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting). This system allows the transference of digital resources, mainly of a scientific nature and open access. Digital preservation policies

Estudios journal preserves its digital documents by means of a redundant storage system consisting of a series of hard disks, which are kept at the School of General Studies of the University of Costa Rica. In addition, all publications are backed up in the cloud storage service associated with the journal's e-mail account. Finally, as a precautionary measure, all published works are in Kerwá, the Institutional Repository of the University of Costa Rica, and in Kimuk, the National Repository of Costa Rica. 

History of the Journal

Revista Estudios was born on 1978 of the concern of many professors of History of Culture from the integrated course of Humanities. Since 2007, it became an electronic journal.

Although its main area is history, this journal has become in a broadcasting medium of works and research about humanism in general.
