Abstract
Embrace of the Serpent (Colombia, 2015) a film by the Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra, narrates the story of an encounter: that of Karamakate, shaman and last survivor of the Cohiuanos, a fictional tribe from the Amazon, with two western ethnographers at two different moments of 20th Century and therefore of Karamakate’s own life. With both, he will travel the Amazon river looking for the Yarkruna, a mythical plant with healing powers. One could say Embrace of the Serpent is the narration of both a physical and symbolic journey: towards both the healing of the body and the restauration of the ecological thought.
the latter being a journey towards the heart of the ecological thought.
