Estudios uses the double-blind review model in the evaluation of articles, which implies that the reviewers will not be informed of the identity of the authors and vice versa. The review begins once the editorial team notifies the authors that they have received the application. This process involves several stages, detailed as follows:
- Receipt of the article
Estudios magazine has 8 working days for the confirmation of receipt of the submitted articles. During this period, a general review is carried out by the editorial team. The review verifies that the proposed article complies with the following aspects:
- Compliance with the Guidelines for Authors.
- In accordance with Estudios’ thematic affinity.
- Presentation and application of a clear methodology and/or theoretical framework.
- Clear, coherent, and cohesive writing throughout the document.
- Anti-plagiarism or self-plagiarism verification using the Turnitin tool.
If the article does not comply with one or more of these aspects, it will be rejected ad portas.
If the article is approved upon receipt, the evaluation and editing process will begin
- Peer review
The articles are submitted for evaluation by experts in the thematic area of the paper, chosen by the direction and edition of the journal. Each article will be sent to at least two reviewers. The evaluation of people outside the Universidad de Costa Rica (publishing entity) will be favored, without this being exclusive. If the two evaluations yield contradictory results, the article will be subject to a third evaluation. In all cases, the Editorial Board will be in charge of resolving any disagreement or conflict in the evaluation process.
Once the evaluations are obtained, the management and editing team will systematize the evaluation report. The results of the assessments may indicate the following results:
- Do not publish: the editorial team will notify the authors of the result.
- Publish with corrections: the editorial team will send the result along with the observations on both content and format that are necessary for the publication of the work.
- Publish without corrections: the editorial team will send the result and, if required, will ask the authors to incorporate formatting aspects.
The reviewers will use an Evaluation Guide, which contemplates two main aspects: format and content.
- Incorporation of comments and proofreading
Once the editorial team sends the result of the evaluation and if it recommends publication, the authors will have a maximum of 15 days to incorporate the requested observations. Corrections must be addressed within the document sent. The authors must send this document and indicate using color the incorporation of the binding observations, both in terms of format and content. The editorial team will verify the integration of the observations. If there are new comments or corrections, the author will be notified within 5 to 7 working days. Likewise, if the editorial team considers it necessary, after the inclusion of the observations, the paper will be subject to a style correction. In this process, corrections that must be taken care of by the authors for final publication will be indicated in the text. Corrections must be addressed within 10 calendar days.
- Design and publication process
Once the final corrections of the document have been made, the text will be formatted according to the format published by the journal. The final version of the document will be sent via e-mail to the authors for their approval prior to publication. If no response is received within 10 calendar days, it will be considered as a positive silence in favor of the approval. After this period, no comments may be included in the manuscript. Finally, the authors will be notified by e-mail of the publication of the paper in the corresponding issue.
