About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones publishes original articles in Mathematics, theoretical and applied, or survey articles with an original presentation. Also, it publishes articles on innovating applications of mathematics in related domains. The original contributions of each article must be presented clearly.

The goal of the Journal is the spreading of the mathematical sciences, both pure and applied, by means of original articles in Latin America.

The journalis is addressed to academics and professionals in Mathematics and related sciences that use Mathematics in their daily work in research and modeling.

Articles in mathematical didactic, or mathematical philosophy, or application of basic mathematics are not published.

No APC: Authors are not charged for submission neither for publication of their articles.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts submitted to the Revista will be evaluated by two to four specialized international referees, who will criticize the text, suggest how to improve or complement it, or may ask for some modifications. Each referee recommend the acceptation of the rejection of the manuscript submitted for publication. The Editorial Board will value the reports and will decide upon acceptance or rejection according to the opinion of the majority. Except for some extraordinary cases, we do not publish two different manuscripts from the same author/co-author in a single issue.

Referees are not paid for their evaluations.

Evaluation procedure is simple blind: referees are anonymous for the authors, however they know the names of the authors in order to avoid plagiarism or multiple publications of similar contents.

If the manuscript is accepted, these suggestions are transmitted to the author for the final version. The Editorial Board may ask the authors some modifications, and may reject the publication of a paper. The Editorial Board will decide the order of appearance of the articles according to the interest of the readers.

Authors wishing to submit a paper should send it according to the instructions for the authors. These instructions may be consulted in the webpage: http://www.revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/matematica based on the Open Journal System (OJS).

Referees are asked to complete their evaluations in one month.

The total duration of the evaluation process is between 6 and 10 months, from the moment we receive the preprint to its acceptance by the Editorial Board.

Open Access Policy

Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones provides free, open access to its content. This follows the principle of making research results available, in order to support the global knowledge exchange.

Use of interoperability protocols

Digital preservation policies

The Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones of Research Center in Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) has the following mechanisms for backing up the information:

Dropbox.
Nextcloud.
External and internal hard disk (desktop computer used by the editing assistant that works in the Journal).

The above mechanisms are used with montly frequency, backing up:

The archives of the published articles, in .TEX, .DVI, .PS, .PDF formats
The .CLS or .STY macros of the published files, in order to make the compilation in Latex anytime.
The figures of each article in .EPS format or in .WMF format
Control files in .XLSX XLSX MS Excel ⃝c format and LibreOffice Calc format
The files of the manuscripts submitted and in evaluation process, in .PDF format
All generated correspondence, such as letters, in PDF and Word / LibreOffice format

Paper preservation politics

The Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones of Research Center in Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) is published in paper since its first issue in 1994. A hard copy of each issue is preserved at the University of Costa Rica libraries in the following campuses: Rodrigo Facio in San José, Western in San Ramón, Atlantic in Turrialba, Guanacaste in Liberia, Pacific in Puntarenas and Caribbean in Limón. This way, it is guaranteed to have printed issues in different places of the country with no dependence of technological changes nor digital format changes, according to Human history since 4,000 years.

Authors copyright and licensing:

Authors retain the copyright of their papers and grant authorization to Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones (the journal) to publish the article, in the following terms:

Copyright on the articles, images, photographs and any other copyrightable material is retained by the authors without restrictions.
The authors guarantee the unpublished condition of the work and authorize the journal to publish the article and to identify it as the first entity that published it.
The article and any associated published material is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/.
Authors grant permission to the journal to produce hardcopy volumes of the article to be sent to libraries and individuals. The journal will charge an administration fee for this copy to the interested organizations or individuals.
Authors grant any third party the right to use the article freely as long as its original authors and citation details are identified.
Users of the journal have free access to the content of the journal. Users are free to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles for any non-commercial purpose.
Authors can make independent contractual agreements for non-exclusive distribution of an article (for instance, to include it in institutional repositories or to publish it as part of a book) provided it is clearly pointed out that the article was published firstly at the Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones and that the above license’s terms and conditions are respected.

In issues published before Volume 30 Number 2 from 2023 articles erroneously claim Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones as the owner of the copyright. All rights belong to the author.

Historical Summary

The journal was created in september 1994 at the School of Mathematics of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), with Javier Trejos as his first Chief Editor. At the beginning, the journal was partially supported by a cooperation agreement between the UCR and the national Social Security system; this agreement supported the publication between 1994 and 2004. In 1997, the journal passed to the Research Center in Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA), whose Scientific Committee establishes the Editorial Board. From 2005 on, the journal is fully financed by the UCR. Since then, it is an official publication of the University of Costa Rica.
