Abstract

Author Biography

  • Juan Carlos Ruiz Castillo, USAC

Juan Carlos Ruiz Castillo is a Guatemalan scholar specialized in the teaching of mathematics and physics, with a strong academic background and research orientation in pure mathematics, mathematical physics, and mathematics education. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in the Teaching of Mathematics and Physics, two master’s degrees —one in Teacher Training and another in Sciences in Mathematics Education—, a Doctorate in Research, and a Postdoctoral degree in Mathematical Physics with a specialization in Chaos Theory.

His main research line is focused on the Collatz Conjecture, analyzed from the perspective of dynamical systems and complexity theory, seeking to establish connections between computational complexity and the effectiveness of optimization techniques applied to the problem. This work is deeply tied to the Ontosemiotic Approach (OSA), which provides an epistemological and semiotic framework for understanding both the problem itself and its didactical implications.

In parallel, his research also explores chaos theory, functional analysis, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and chaotic dynamical systems, aiming to construct models that capture complex phenomena where formal abstraction and computational experimentation converge.

In the field of mathematics education, his interests focus on semiotic representations, mathematical modeling, the teaching of tessellations and geometry, and the integration of technological tools such as GeoGebra. His work seeks to enhance teaching and learning processes in the training of future mathematics and physics teachers.

Ruiz Castillo’s trajectory combines a commitment to mathematical rigor, the exploration of open mathematical problems, and a reflection on the epistemological foundations of mathematics, with the goal of contributing both to scientific research and to the academic formation of teachers in Guatemala and Latin America.
