Abstract

The article outlines the main ideas of José Martí, as presented by him at the Pan-American Monetary Conference of 1891, regarding the proposal made by the United States government to the Spanish-American countries to form a monetary union. It also outlines the historical context of the U.S. monetary system between 1878 and 1900, with the aim of providing a historical understanding of the position adopted by Martí.
