Abstract
This article presents the results of an assessment conducted among micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) located in the communities of Paquera, Cóbano, Lepanto, and Jicaral, situated on the Nicoya Peninsula within the administrative boundaries of the Central Canton of Puntarenas. The purpose of the assessment is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of these MSMEs, enabling the development of actions to improve their competitiveness within the communities where they are located, taking advantage of the tourism development opportunities that have emerged in these areas in recent years. The study was conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Costa Rica and the Central Pacific Regional Office of the Ministry of Economy, Industry, and Commerce.
