Peer review process

The acceptance for publication or the rejection of the articles submitted for publication is result of an evaluation process that is carried out in four stages. From the first to the third stage, the journal's editorial team evaluates the document; in the fourth stage the external peers participate. Each of the stages is detailed below:

  1. Journal scope. In this first stage, it is determined if the subject treated in the article and the methodology used are within the scope of the journal. If not, the article will be rejected.
  2. Compliance with the submission guidelines. In this second stage, compliance with the submission guidelines is evaluated. The non-registration of the data of all the authors of the manuscript with their respective qualifications and affiliation and not having the structure of Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and Bibliography are rejection criteria.
  3. Plagiarism detection. Inadequate citation and/or plagiarism detection when submitting the manuscript to the Turnitin software will be reasons for rejection in this third stage of evaluation.
  4. Recommendation of the peer reviewers and the editorial team. In this fourth stage, the manuscript will be subjected to a "double-blind" peer review process, the reviewers are unaware of the authorship of the article and vice versa, in order to avoid bias in the evaluation and guarantee the transparency of the process. The evaluators are professionals with knowledge in the subject matter and/or methodology of the manuscript, each article will be reviewed by at least two external peers. At REVENF, the vast majority of evaluators are external to the journal and the University. Each evaluator will provide their criteria and observations using the instrument created by the journal for this purpose. Finally, based on this information, the editorial team makes a decision regarding the article, based on four possible options:
    • Approved for publication: the authors are informed, and the article is immediately send for a review for philological accurac
    • Approved on condition of minor revisions: the authors must make the requested modifications within the established time. Then, the article will be included in the current edition.
    • Approved on condition of major revisions: the authors must make the requested modifications within the established time and the article will be sent again for peer review (if possible, to the same referees who performed the first review). Making the requested modifications is not a guarantee that the article will be published.
    • Rejection: the authors are informed of the decision not to publish their manuscript.

It is estimated that the total duration of the manuscript evaluation process from submission to final decision is 6 months. Once the manuscript is accepted, a DOI will be assigned and it will be published in an "Ahead of print" version until the official publication of the edition according to the publication dates in January or July of each year.

The selected and published manuscripts will be the property of the journal.

To participate as a referee in REVENF, a minimum master's degree is required, however, a doctor's degree is ideal. In addition, referees must have research experience and their ORCID duly updated. It is clarified that the editorial team will be evaluating the quality of the reviews and they reserve the right to choose who will participate as reviewers of the journal.
