Abstract
At a time when world geopolitics is seeking ways to contain threats in the Middle East, the evolution of a strategy to try to contain the aggressiveness of the regime in Syria by Bashar al-Assad, after the radicalism of the Islamic State and other groups from the first experiences of containment against Saddam Hussein in Iraq, as well as against the Iranian Revolution, it is ambiguous. This strategy manifests itself in a fragmented nature. In the same United States leads a coalition together with European countries, the Middle East and Australia to counteract Sunni jihadism. It spread in the context of the Arab Spring. In this essay the context is contextualized in which first in Syria and then in Iraq they experience a strategy of containment. Then the theoretical discussion about the difficulties to get to concrete this strategy of containment by the foreign policy of the United States, starting from the Arab Spring.
