History
The Journal of Educational Management was created in 2011 as an initiative of the Directorate and the Advisory Board of the School of Educational Administration, supported by the Vice-Rectorate of Research at the University of Costa Rica. Its goal is to provide the national and international scientific community with an academic and scientific space for the development of research and knowledge generation in the field of educational management and administration.
It emerged as a space for debate and dissemination of disciplinary knowledge to support new studies and offer innovative models to explain and interpret the processes and dynamics of educational management and administration in educational organizations. It aims to support the development of strategic decision-making processes for those responsible for leading educational management at different educational levels, modalities, and contexts.
Purpose of the Journal of Educational Management
The Journal of Educational Management is edited by the School of Educational Administration at the University of Costa Rica. Its publications are directed toward the national and international scientific community in the field of Educational Administration and Management.
Its purpose is to strengthen research, promote academic reflection, and apply knowledge to address the challenges faced by educational organizations in their administration and management processes.
General Information
- Frequency: Semiannual. The first issue is published in January and covers the first semester of the year (January to June), while the second issue is published in July and covers the second semester of the year (July to December).
- Submission Period: Throughout the year.
- Format: Digital.
- Languages for Article Submission: Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
- License for Articles: Published articles are protected by a Creative Commons 4.0 license (Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives) International. This license protects the author's rights at both national and international levels.
- Free of Charge: The journal does not charge any fees for submission, evaluation, processing, or publication of articles.
- Access: The journal is open access, sharing the theoretical and practical results of scientific research in the areas of educational administration and management. The right to read each article is free immediately after its publication.
- Use of Articles: The journal allows readers to freely download, store, copy, and distribute the approved and published final version of an article, provided it is done for non-commercial purposes, no derivative works are created, and the source and authorship are acknowledged.
- Ethical Code: The journal is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards. It has an ethical behavior code for its editorial team, reviewers, and authors (Ethical Code). Regarding academic integrity, the journal adheres to the standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
- Plagiarism Detection: The journal uses Turnitin UCR software for plagiarism detection in all submitted manuscripts. This ensures the originality of the published content and compliance with the journal’s ethical standards. Any indication of plagiarism will be rigorously evaluated, and manuscripts that do not meet originality standards will be rejected.
- Digital Preservation Policy: The journal implements a digital preservation policy that includes storing files in the institutional KERWA repository at the University of Costa Rica, regular backups, and the use of standardized formats. Interoperability standards are also followed to ensure the preservation and long-term dissemination of files.

Types of Articles Published in the Journal of Educational Management
- Scientific Article: Derived from research or expert knowledge in the discipline. Its purpose is to present theoretical or practical results that have emerged from scientific research in the fields of educational administration or management. Maximum length: 30 pages.
- Essay: Derived from the study, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of a specific issue or topic in educational administration or management, aiming to produce a text that argues, exposes, confronts, or refutes an idea or thesis. Maximum length: 30 pages.
- Thematic Review: Derived from documentary research, with the aim of comparing and analyzing different positions on a specific problem or topic in educational administration or management, to produce a coherent text summarizing the main results and conclusions on the subject. Maximum length: 30 pages.
- Biographical Sketch: Derived from the study and description of a person or organization, to produce a biographical text highlighting the character, formation, contributions, and relevance of that person or organization in the field of educational administration or management. Maximum length: 30 pages.
