Editorial Policy

Open Access Policy

Open Access is a way of sharing information, generally the results of scientific research, without any cost or restriction to the user. It is an international movement in which the author or rights holder of the work authorizes free access to use, distribute, copy and transmit the work publicly in any digital medium for any responsible purpose, subject to proper attribution of authorship, as well as the right to make a small number of printed copies for personal use (Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing). This movement is based on the Budapest (2002), Bethesda (2003) and Berlin (2003) Declarations. We are also subscribers to the DORA Declaration (San Francisco, 2012).

The Revista humanidades adheres to this manifesto. It considers, in this sense, that the published material is a public resource that may be used for non-profit purposes, respecting the institutional terms of use and the intellectual property rights of third parties.

Requirement of Originality and Acceptance of Conditions

The document submitted must be an original, unpublished work and not submitted to other publication media. When the journal acknowledges RECEIVED, it may not be withdrawn from the process, nor may it be submitted to other publications. The editorial team of the journal will send a letter of requirement of originality and acceptance of conditions, which must be signed by the author (or authors). This letter declares that the work complies with international ethical standards of intellectual property and authorship. Likewise, the author(s) will accept that the work be distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) license.

Code of Ethics and Plagiarism Detection

The Revista humanidades makes available the Code of Ethics and Editorial Policies, and also
informs about the use of Turnitin software, to contribute to the promotion of originality and
academic integrity of the submitted works. Plagiarism detection is performed before sending the manuscript to peer review, in order to corroborate that the writing meets the requirement of being original and unpublished. If plagiarism is verified by Turnitin, the author is notified to resolve the situation. If the author does not respond to the notification, the article will be immediately rejected and no future submissions will be accepted, as this violates the Code of Ethics and Editorial Policies of the Journal.

Digital Preservation Policy

The Journal digitally preserves its files (pdf, epub, html) by means of a redundant storage system that employs an array of hard disks in order to create greater tolerance to failures. The device is located in the facilities of the Centro Centroamericano de Población of the University of Costa Rica and is under lock and key with controlled access. The digital backup provided by the institutional repository of the University of Costa Rica is also used, in addition to the LOCKSS system, as a means to create an archive that is distributed among the associated libraries, which guarantees a backup in case a restoration is needed. For more information, visit this link. Likewise, the journal has a Dropbox, OneDrive and MEGA account, where documents corresponding to published and in-progress issues are stored.
