Abstract
The last time programs to teach Spanish were changed in Costa Rica was in 1996. Since then, the objectives that guide the study of literature in the secondary school classroom have had very few changes and the teaching of literature has been focused essentially on literary analysis based on structuralist and socio-critical theories. This approach to teaching literature has not been successful in bringing the students closer to the literary text, and neither has increased the student's interest in reading literary works. For that reason, this article proposes a different approach to teach literature in the secondary school classroom, based on the literary competence to help the student understand, interpret, and enjoy literary works, instead of having to face the books from the perspective of an specialist.Comments
