Abstract

This work presents a mythic and symbolic analysis of the death of Narcissus’s myth in Jose Lezama Lima’s poem «La muerte de Narciso» as from its intertextual references in Ovidius Naso and Paul Valéry; besides, it also analyses its poetic features in the context of the Latin-American Literature in the XX century. Specifically, this article focuses on the symbols of water-mirror, fire as an expression of Eros, the shell-snail shell as symbol of poetry, and on Narcissus himself as the integrating symbol of all the other symbols.
