Abstract
This article exposes the thought of the former Rector of the University of Costa Rica, Professor Carlos Monge Alfaro in relation to its philosophical-anthropological approach to culture. It highlights the educational efforts of the University of Costa Rica in promoting research and scientific and cultural development of our country.From a humanistic perspective, it shows the value of scientific knowledge and its contribution to the development of the national culture, emphasizing the need for higher education institutions to become humanities laboratories that seek to stimulate creative imagination and ingenuity of young learners in the field of letters, arts and sciences, so in this way the professionals being trained will be able to substantiate the nature of their professional activities.
