Submissions

Author Guidelines

The reception of manuscripts does not imply their publication; for this purpose, they must undergo the entire editorial evaluation process. The editorial team will notify the authors throughout each step of the process of reception, revision and eventual publication. 

Articles submitted to Estudios must comply with the following guidelines: 

1. Submissions must be original and unpublished. They cannot be published in repositories, websites or blogs. They cannot be simultaneously submitted to another journal. 
2. It is necessary that all proposed works incorporate a humanistic approach and focus. 
3. Estudios Journal receives manuscript submissions in Spanish and English. 
4. Articles can be received by two means: by sending an e-mail to the journal's e-mail address revistaestudios.eeg@ucr.ac.cr together with the Letter of Authorization of Copyright (CAP), or through the Journal Portal of the University of Costa Rica. To do so, you must register as an author at the following address: https://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/estudios/user/register 
5. All manuscripts must be accompanied by the Letter of Authorization of Copyright (CADA). The submission of this letter is a mandatory requirement for the submission of manuscripts to the Estudios journal. 
6. The information of all authors must be complete and with their respective signatures (can be signed digitally or handwritten and scanned). If you send your submission through the Journal Portal, the CADA will be requested in step 4 or sent as an attachment via e-mail. If the article has several authors, it will be considered a collective work. Therefore, only one person should be designated to be responsible for dealing with queries and comments from Estudios and, if the article is published, to receive correspondence from the reviewers. 
7. Individuals or research teams that submit two or more papers, and that one of them has been published in a regular or special issue of the journal, may only publish their second paper after the due review process with a minimum distance of two issues (special or regular) from the first published paper. 

FORMAL ASPECTS 

• Articles should be submitted in editable Word or Open Office format with a maximum length of twelve thousand five hundred words.  
• The use of margins must be the default: top and bottom 2.5 cm. Left and right 3 cm. The font to be used is Times New Roman 12 with 1.5 spacing. 
• The title of the paper should contain less than 15 words and synthesize the main idea of the manuscript. In addition, it should explicitly mention the humanistic approach that it incorporates. 
• All manuscripts should contain title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish and English. These elements should be placed first in the language in which the original manuscript is submitted and then in the second language. 
• The information of the authors should be placed after and aligned to the right. For each author, the full name, institutional affiliation, city and country of affiliation, e-mail and ORCID should be stated. 
• Each author should send a second document without authorship marks. That is, a version of the paper in which any reference to the identity of the author(s) is omitted to ensure the double-blind review process. 
• The abstract/abstract should be a single paragraph, clear, succinct, and explanatory of the work. It should state, in less than 150 words, the objective of the work, methodological proposal, the approach and/or humanistic approach used, the sources used for the analysis, theoretical approach and the main conclusions of the research. 
• The keywords must be five in both Spanish and English and separated by semicolons. They must be standardized in a thesaurus (a specialized list that allows the semantic organization of concepts for web searches). The recommended thesaurus is the UNESCO Thesaurus, which specializes in areas of the humanities and culture. 
• Section titles should be indicated without indentation and highlighted in bold. Section subtitles should be indented, bold and italicized. Third-level subtitles should be indented, bold and italicized, as suggested below:

• The graphic elements should be identified accordingly with the names of figure (image, graph or map) and table (table). In addition, the following aspects should be considered: 

• Each figure must contain a title below the image with the name "figure" capitalized and accompanied by Arabic numerals, for example: Figure 1. 

• The source should be indicated after the title in APA format. 

• All graphic elements must be mentioned within the body of the text, with lowercase letters and the corresponding number. It can be done as part of the sentence or in parentheses, for example: (figure 1). 

• Graphic elements (images, tables, graphs) must be inserted in the text of the article. 

• Without exception, each image, picture, map or graphic element that is included in the paper must be sent as an independent attachment in the order in which they appear in the text. 

• In the case of images, they must have a quality of at least 300 dpi (dots per inch). 

• If the images do not belong to the author of the manuscript, this should be noted in the CAP in the section on consent for the use of images with the signature of the person who owns the rights to the images. 

• Footnotes should be included at the bottom of the page, preferably no longer than 10 lines. 

• Citations and references should be placed according to the APA Model 7th edition.
