Author Guidelines

A- Submission Process

Authors interested in publishing in REVISTARQUIS must send their articles to the journal through the OJS system, following this link. Through the platform, the author sends the article, accepts the stimulated conditions, and enters the associated metadata.

In exceptional cases, the author can send the article with a written request addressed to the editor through the email revistarquis@ucr.ac.cr. In such cases, the author must attach:

1. A mini curriculum (maximum of 60 words) in which he or she specifies: academic degree, profession, institutional affiliation, country, and email.
2. An authenticity note of the authorship and originality of the manuscript, a specification that the manuscript has not been sent in parallel to another journal and a statement of concession of copyright. The author must also authorize the disclosure of his or her email.

The author can send the article anytime.

B- Type of articles

REVISTARQUIS main publication content is scientific articles, especially those from academic researches. It also publishes bibliographical reviews, biographies, and experience accounts.

The articles published in REVISTARQUIS follow the accepted national and international norms. According to these norms, the journal identifies six types of articles:

1. Scientific articles

Scientific articles present original results from a conducted research, and it contributes with an objective interpretation of those results. Articles from this category include the following sections: Introduction, literature review, conceptual references, methodology, results, conclusions, reference list.

2. Bibliographical reviews

It is document that results from critical bibliographic analysis on a specific topic, providing new ideas.

3. Essays

An essay is an argumentative text written in prose in which the author explains, defends, or contradicts ideas of a specific topic. The author states his or her opinion with solid arguments and backs it up with citations from other authors.

4. Reflections and experience accounts

Texts in this section critically analyze relevant information on a specific topic. These texts narrate experiences and aspects related to certain disciplines and techniques. They also are short on length, concise, and descriptive.

5. Project reviews

These are short articles that describe, evaluate or analyze the content of recent publications. They also can describe content of architectonic projects, urban works, or texts from similar disciplines.

6. Interviews

Interviews are conversations between two or more individuals who wants to display a topic of common interest.

C- Requirements

Articles must comply with the following requirements:

• The article must be original (has not been published yet by another journal)
• Author’s information: Complete name and last name, place of work, and address. The article also must have a mini curriculum (maximum of 60 words) in which he or she specifies: academic degree, profession, institutional affiliation, country, and email.
• The format of the article must be in .doc, .docx, or .rtf in either Spanish, English, or Portuguese. It must be sent through the website: http://revistas.ucr.ac.cr/index.php/revistarquis.
• Length:If the manuscript corresponds to a scientific article or to a references review, the length should be between 5.000 and 8.000 words. Essays, reflections, and life accounts should have a maximum of 5.000 words, and reviews should have a maximum of 3.000 words. The Editorial Board reserves their right to accept or not articles that surpass the aforementioned lengths.
• Format: The submitted article should be Letter size. Tabulation: Upper 3 cm and lower, left, and right 2,5 cm. Numbering should be on the lower left of the page. Text should be justified.
• Font letter is “Arial” number 11, and the text should be in single space.
• Titles and subtitles cannot exceed 14 words.
• Article must have a one paragraph abstract of maximum 250 words in both English and Spanish. 
• Text must have from 3 to 5 keywords alphabetically ordered, separated by semicolon, and in both English and Spanish.
• References format are written according to Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition). Every reference is cited inside the text and vice versa. For more information, authors can check the following link: http://www.apastyle.org/learn/faqs/index.aspx.
• Foot notes have a maximum length of 70 words and must be used only to clarify or to include additional information.
• Explanations of acronyms or concepts must be included in the text.
• When needed, tables, charts, figures, and diagrams must follow the instructions found in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th edition). They should be within the text in an approximate position.
• Graphic material should be attached in independent files with minimum resolution of 300 dpi/ppp in format .tiff or .jpg.
• Responsibility: Authors are responsible for the copyright of the pictures taken from other sources. In Costa Rica, pictures become public domain when the author has more than 75 years deceased. A written proof with the authorization from the original authors must be included.
