Abstract

This article presents the results of anthropological research on the practices and
symbolism of the wedding dress in Costa Rica between the years 2016 and 2023. The
purpose is to analyze the meanings of the wedding dress for Costa Rican society;
acquisition practices of female marriage trousseau and associated religious symbolism are studied. A brief historical review of the origin of the use of the trousseau is
presented. Qualitative methodology and ethnographic method were used.

Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Costa Rica and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Universidad Panamericana, Costa Rica. Her work focuses on the cultural perspective of fashion-related commercial dynamics.

  • Luis Diego Chaves-Chang, Instituto Costarricense de Masculinidad, Pareja y Sexualidad (Instituto Wen), San Pedro, Montes de Oca, San José, Costa Rica.

    Costa Rican. Holds a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Costa Rica. Works at the Costa Rican Institute of Masculinity, Partnership, and Sexuality, and also collaborates with the University of Costa Rica on research and outreach projects related to Indigenous peoples. His work focuses on topics such as cultural diversity, Indigenous peoples, Sinology, cultural heritage, and legal anthropology. He recently published “An Approach to the Study of the Ngäbe-Buglé Kinship System” in Orígenes, the journal of the Costa Rican Association of Genealogy and History.
