Abstract
The purpose of this work is to demonstrate the existence of inconsistencies in the number of received votes for President, Deputies and Municipal Representatives in
the Costa Rican elections from 1978 to 2002. The study underlines the discrepancies in the received votes for President and Deputies. For the elections of 2002 the analysis
is by ‘Juntas’; for the elections of 1978 to 1998 by districts. Although our elections are well known for its high degree of purity, the inconsistencies found in our research
work make us believe that the high degree of purity may be increased if additional controls are introduced within the ‘Juntas Receptoras de votos’.
