Abstract
This article has the main object to reflect briefly about the concept of university autonomy,
taking as reference frame the meaning that this concept has had on Latin American universities,
since University Reform in 1918, as much as the connotation that was given
to Costa Rica in relation of the creation of the University of Costa Rica, in 1940. It addresses
some of the main issues that in the present have come to have a significant impact to
the public university and therefore, for the university autonomy.
