Abstract
This article deals with the process of increasing precarious jobs in Latin America during the period of structural reforms. Its main goal is to explore the theoretical foundations and scope of the concept of labor precariousness. It also seeks to analyze the conceptual and empirical linkages between the structural adjustment process and the rising of precarious jobs in the new economic model. It states that although this concept has been used in an empirical way, there is a need to approach it from a theoretical perspective, in order to have a better comprehension of the labor and social changes it conveys.
