Abstract
Lowell Gudmundson is a historian born in the United States, but with a deep interest in Costa Rica and Central America. Born in 1951, a good part of his life has been spent researching Costa Rican archives and producing works whose impact has greatly benefited national historiography. In that sense, Gudmundson's classic work was his book Costa Rica before coffee, which was first his doctoral thesis at the University of Minnesota in 1982, became a book in English in 1986[2], and was later published in Spanish. in 1993[3] by the Editorial Costa Rica and was reissued in 2010 by the Editorial of the State Distance University...
