Resumo
Esta apresentação é uma atualização da declaração de consenso existente e destina-se a todos os profissionais de saúde que cuidam de pessoas com osteoartrite do joelho ou quadril. Sintetiza as evidências mais recentes para o exercício nesses pacientes, com foco em diretrizes clínicas e revisões sistemáticas; além disso, oferece orientação aos profissionais sobre a melhor forma de implementar o exercício em sua prática clínica. Essas diretrizes defendem a atividade física e o exercício como componentes centrais da gestão da doença baseada em evidências. A pesquisa fornece evidências a favor da redução da dor nas articulações graças ao exercício; também pode aumentar a funcionalidade física e melhorar a qualidade de vida em pacientes com osteoartrite do quadril ou joelho. Além disso, respalda uma variedade de tipos de exercícios (supervisionados e não supervisionados) que podem ser benéficos. A dosagem do exercício deve ser baseada nas diretrizes do Colégio Americano de Medicina do Esporte (American College of Sports Medicine). Dado que as pessoas com osteoartrite enfrentam muitas barreiras para se exercitar, os profissionais devem desempenhar um papel ativo na supervisão e promoção da adesão ao exercício para otimizar os benefícios terapêuticos.
