The humans who found a way of life on a ship

Abstract

Introduction: A reflection is presented on the role of archaeology of the underwater cultural heritage of Costa Rica and its impact to approach the investigation of the people who lived on eight historic ships wrecked in Costa Rican waters

Objective: To reconstruct the superficial history of the human beings who lived on historic ships in Costa Rica based on the analysis of their naval architecture.

Method: Through the investigation of shipwrecks in the section of analysis of naval architecture, spatial location and chronology, it was possible to raise some reflections of human beings who made ships their way of life.

Results: The analysis of the naval architecture of eight ships that are more than one hundred years old allowed us to know their nature as well as the possible incidents that triggered their current state, in which only remnants of what were once ships built to sail the ocean remain.

Conclusions: In an exercise from the general to the particular, some final reflections are presented on the hypotheses that have arisen from learning about the naval architecture of the eight ships that sank in Costa Rican waters related to the human beings who decided to configure their way of life based on the closed social coexistence of a ship.
