This magazine publishes articles, reflections, artistic works, reviews and interviews. These texts must be original and unpublished and must be submitted exclusively to our Editorial Board.

All files received must be accompanied by a letter authorizing ESCENA. Revista de las artes to publish them by the means that the magazine considers pertinent without charge. Likewise, the originality and authorship of the manuscript is guaranteed and it is stated that the manuscript is submitted exclusively to the Editorial Board of this journal.

The duration of the review process is approximately six months. For more details of the process, you can review the description of the publication process. Manuscript citations should conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition in English or 4th edition in Spanish.

Our journal is updated towards XML-Jats tagging and towards the pursuit of quality. Therefore, we have updated and created supplementary material on some of the new guidelines that have been implemented. The following are the formal and content requirements that each manuscript must meet.

Formal aspects

1. Manuscripts must be submitted in Word format (.docs, .rtf) to the OJS system of our journal (click on "Submit an article"). To do so, you must be registered on our website. You can also send your manuscript to the journal's e-mail address (escena.iiarte@ucr.ac.cr); however, you must always send it to the OJS system available on our web page.

2. Texts should not exceed 12,000 words, including titles, summaries, tables, graphs, illustrations, footnotes and references. They should be presented in their final form. The font used should be Times New Roman, 12 point, double spaced.

3. The manuscript must always be accompanied by the letter of authorization for publication completed and signed physically and digitally. In case the text includes figures, graphics or images, a letter of authorization for the publication of images must be provided if these are not unpublished or own elaborations.

4. If the text includes images, these must have a minimum quality of 300 dpi (dots per inch) and must be sent in separate files. In addition, each of these must be accompanied by its respective title (at the top) and source (at the bottom). All supporting material must be duly mentioned in the body of the text; for example, "according to figure 1".

5. The ORCID code of each author must be indicated in the letter. If you do not have one, ORCID registration can be done at this link.

6. Manuscripts should be headed by a title, which should succinctly express the main idea of the text, indicate the main topic and avoid the use of abbreviations. The recommended length for a title is less than 15 words. In any type of manuscript, the equivalent of the title in Spanish should also be included.

7. The name(s) of the author(s) should follow the title, followed by the institution where he/she works, the city and country where the institution is located, and his/her e-mail address.

8. For articles and reflections: The abstract (in Spanish and English) should be a clear and precise description of the content and should not exceed 200 words. It should follow a format of subtitles that summarize some aspect of the content of the text: introduction, objective, methods, results, conclusions. Some of these sections may be omitted if the content or subject matter of the text does not present these sections.

9. For articles and reflections: Keywords, both in English and Spanish, may not be mentioned in the title of the manuscript. The use of proper names and place names should also be avoided. Five should always be mentioned.

10. Section headings: the article must contain duly titled sections. These may be of a creative or aesthetic nature, but must clearly allude to the content of the section: introduction, development parts or conclusion. Sections may also be titled using their generic names, for example, "introduction".

11. Section headings: if the sections contain subheadings, these should not exceed three levels.

Section title (left-aligned, boldface).

Section subtitle (left-aligned, bold and in italics)

Section subtitle (left-aligned in italics)

12. If footnotes are required, they should be included at the bottom of the page.

Content aspects

1. All manuscripts submitted to the journal must be of interest to one of the fields of the arts. If it is a philosophical or literary work, it must be related to another artistic field such as cinema, aesthetics or visual semiotics. Any manuscript that is of an informative nature will be rejected.

2. The writing should follow the basic guidelines of academic discourse and try to follow the strategies of coherence and cohesion. It is also important to use inclusive language, when necessary, following the guidelines established by the Guide for the use of gender-inclusive language.

3. Proposals are accepted in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese.

4. For articles and reflections: all submissions must include citations of academic and artistic texts. If this requirement is not met, the manuscript will be rejected ad portas.
