Abstract

Although all kinds of fruit are harvested in the village of Frutal, it is not well-received to eat them. No one opens the door for anyone, and helping others is even more unthinkable. Fear and unease permeate the atmosphere. As Hernán from the mango farm, a well-known leader in the community, seeks help to escape, he encounters barriers at the Papayal, the Piñada, the Guayabal, the Mandarino, La Chonta, the Guanábanos, and the Aguacate farms. Silence reigns there, and, while some may want to take action, their own self-interest weighs heavier than the well-being of others. Hernán’s journey, along with his family, begins to stir memories, dusting off the decaying shells of Frutal’s past. They unravel and reveal the secrets that haunt this beautiful place, much like many other locations in Latin America. Amidst the picturesque still life, the fruit smells sweet, but it is surrounded by flies.
