Author Guidelines
The Journal of Modern Languages (JML) was born in 2004 with the purpose of promoting the university intellectual debate and representing the multifaceted spirit of the School of Modern Languages (SML), of the University of Costa Rica (UCR). The JML is a biannual publication (July-December and January-June) of an academic nature, not for profit and with open access. The JML declares its openness to the participation of authors outside the publishing entity (UCR), both nationally and internationally.
The JML accepts original and unpublished articles related to the SML's areas of action and research: literature, linguistics, didactics of foreign languages, and cultural studies. Manuscripts can be submitted in the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German. All proposals must be written respecting the drafting rules of the language or languages. A manuscript with misspellings and bad syntax will be rejected ad portas.
All documents sent to the Journal will be submitted to a review by two evaluators (double peer review). In case of discrepancy of criteria, it will be sent to a third party. The editorial process that follows the document can be found in the Focus and scope section on the JML page.
The management and editorial team of the Journal of Modern Languages communicate the guidelines for the submission of documents to the authors.
Rules and formal guidelines for article submission:
Only documents will be received, in OpenOffice Writer format or Microsoft Word, sent through the Journal Portal of the University of Costa Rica. For this, the author must be registered in the Portal.
The author must attach, without exceptions, his full name, academic degree, academic or work affiliation, physical address or post office box, and email in a separate document. In case he or she has an ORCID ID, it must be included along with the other data. In the case of articles with several authors, the order of relevance of these can be clarified.
Each of the people listed as author has contributed directly to the intellectual content of the work, approves the contents of the manuscript that is submitted to the editorial process and gives their consent for their name to appear in the Journal.
The author must complete all the metadata requested by the system (in both English or French and Spanish) when uploading their proposal to the Journal's website. If not, the manuscript will be rejected ad portas.
The author must ensure that the requirements of the double-blind review process are met; therefore, the manuscript cannot include the author's name in the body of the article or in the file properties. Likewise, if there is intellectual or financial support for the research by third parties, it must be declared if there is a conflict of interest for said aid.
The editorial board welcomes national and international contributions written in English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German, without excluding other languages depending on the possibilities of peer review.
The document must be original and unpublished, and not be in an editorial process in another magazine. Authors retain their copyrights and may, therefore, publish their writings on personal websites or institutional repositories. It is recommended to publish the final version (postprint) of the document.
The authors authorize the Jorunal of Modern Languages to publish articles in various formats (pdf, html, xml, epub, among others) and inclusion them in the databases where the JML is indexed, in the understanding of them will not be used for commercial purposes. Articles are supported by a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license. International License to protect your copyrights and guarantee free access.
The editorial team of the JML informs the authors that, once the acknowledgment has been sent, the document cannot be withdrawn from the editorial process already started. However, the acknowledgment of receipt does not confirm the publication.
The RLM reserves the right to request changes to the manuscript at any time during the editorial process.
