Abstract
This research is aimed at generating theory and better understanding of the relationship between the self-esteem and self-concept of students in the Course of Study of Teaching and Researching of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the Facultad de Humanidades, Universidad Nacional de Catamarca (Argentina), and their academic performance to improve the learning of the English language. The study follows a descriptiveinterpretative approach of the multiple factors involved in the formation of a certain level of self-concept, for which biographical accounts and questionnaires about academic self-concept are used.
