Resumen
En este trabajo se analiza el artículo de revisión narrativa o tradicional como una importante y valiosa fuente de información para la investigación científica, tanto en ciencias naturales como en ciencias sociales. En este sentido, se plantearon preguntas en torno a sus características esenciales, su diferencia con otra modalidad de revisión, específicamente, la revisión sistemática, y con otro género muy distinto como el ensayo. Además, se interroga acerca del nivel de evidencia y validez científica de la revisión narrativa. El método empleado para responder las preguntas planteadas fue la revisión semi-sistemática de enfoque cualitativo. El resultado más significativo revela la validez e importancia de la revisión narrativa como complemento de otros tipos de revisiones, dada su utilidad en la compilación de información dispersa, su presentación integrada y resumida, así como su aporte en la detección de brechas de conocimiento para la investigación. Se concluye que el grado de evidencia y validez científica del artículo de revisión narrativa está determinada por la rama de la ciencia en la que se desarrolla, así como por el paradigma y enfoque de investigación asumido.
