Abstract
This article provides a review of the treatment of Spanish language teaching in the twelve official programs in the period from 1909 to 1990. Throughout the programs reviewed, one way or another, it says the Spanish language as required in all school activities and subjects, but the predominant theoretical and methodological approach is grammatical, which prioritizes the study of formal aspects of language as an end in itself, detrimental to the development of communication skills.Comments
