Resumo
O golpe de calor por esforço (GCE) é uma das causas principais de morte súbita durante o esporte e a atividade física. Somente no futebol americano ocorreram 46 mortes documentadas nos EUA entre 1995 e 2010. Em 2003, a associação responsável pelos esportes universitários dos EUA estabeleceu pautas obrigatórias de aclimatização ao calor, resultando numa diminuição exitosa no número de mortes por golpe de calor nesse esporte. Mas apesar dos avanços na atenção médica moderna e uma maior consciência sobre medidas de segurança para o calor, a falta de atenção adequada no lugar para os pacientes continua contribuindo na incidência de GCE, especialmente ao nível juvenil. Está devidamente estabelecido nas publicações científicas que é possível, em grande medida, prevenir as mortes por GCE nos contextos de esportes organizados, se uma educação apropriada é brindada e se dispõe de pessoal médico treinado no reconhecimento e tratamento do GCE. Neste documento é feita uma revisão das melhores práticas médicas atuais e da evidência sobre a epidemiologia, fisiopatologia, fatores de risco, reconhecimento, tratamento, prevenção e recomendações sobre o regresso à prática esportiva para o GCE, especificamente no pertinente ao contexto do esporte organizado.Referências
