Resumo
Futebol é o esporte mais popular em todo o mundo, com um número crescente de jogadores profissionais a cada ano, e associado a isso, é complexo e imprevisível, com múltiplos problemas físicos, técnicos, táticos e psicológicos críticos para o desempenho. Na década de 90, a análise de desempenho baseada em ferramentas incluía sistemas de posicionamento global e sistemas de rastreamento óptico para cada jogador. Por essa razão, este estudo teve como objetivo analisar variáveis físicas e técnicas relacionadas ao resultado de uma partida e ao fato de uma equipe se classificar para as diferentes fases da Copa do Mundo da FIFA de 2018 na Rússia. A análise abrangeu todas as partidas disputadas durante a Copa do Mundo da FIFA de 2018 na Rússia, até 64 partidas das 32 seleções nacionais participantes. O gol pode ser insuficiente para definir o sucesso de uma equipe, pois essa variável depende de diferentes e múltiplos fatores. As equipes que se classificaram para a fase eliminatória mostraram desempenho significativamente melhor em algumas variáveis técnicas. E, por outro lado, em relação às variáveis físicas, as equipes mais bem-sucedidas percorreram distâncias mais curtas com e sem a bola, apresentando distâncias mais significativas nas zonas de intensidade 1 e 5 e posse de bola. Esses aspectos merecem ser analisados para definir sua relação com o sucesso no jogo.
