Abstract
This research focuses on Ricardo Fernández-Guardia’s translation work in the anthology Costa Rica en el siglo XIX (Costa Rican in the 19th Century), compiled and translated by this Costa Rican in the first quarter of the 20th century. The first section involves studies about Fernández-Guardia as a translator. The second part includes a socio-cultural analysis of Costa Rica during that period and explains these translations based on Even-Zohar Polysystem Theory. Third, it analyzes Fernández-Guardia´s translation style. Finally, this study concludes presenting some comments about the relevance translations studies have in the translation work.
