Abstract
In this text we approach the idea that the concept of the mirror “returns” the monstrosity, not as a prize, but rather as a condemnation. Such retribution turn, ultimately, Gray into a sinister subject before the eyes of others, so youth becomes a symbol of perversion, even if it is the objective sought that from the beginning. The initial longing ends up reversing itself in a condemnation that marks the death of the protagonist, in a kind of punishment of the conscience.
