Abstract
The study presents the ED-93 Idiomas para la Comunicación Intercultural (ICI) project participants’ linguistic needs in context as well as their perceptions with respect to language learning in the classroom. The data reveal that the majority of students consider learning different languages to be beneficial to their quality of life given that this knowledge contributes to their social development. Furthermore, the data demonstrate that the students’ principal needs in the language classroom include the development of language skills, cultural enlightenment, and implementation of contextualized learning activities and evaluation in order to aid language learning. In short, there is a need to focus more on oral and written use of language to take advantage of language learning in the classroom, as well as the cultural knowledge acquired through exposure to different educational activities and continuous evaluation.
