Abstract
Fairy tales play an important role in child development, as well as in psychoanalytical therapy. There is a marked difference between folk fairy tales and artistic fairy tales. The brothers Grimm recompiled the tales they found during the first half of the 19th century, many of which can be traced back to antiquity. A selection of tales is considered here, as well as two tales by Hans Christian Andersen, for the sake of comparison. Finally, modern writings with fairy tale traits are mentioned.
