Abstract
The analysis of the speeches emitted by the national press about the celebration of May Day after the end of the Civil War of 1948, allows understanding of the role of the media in Costa Rica as agents of political socialization. On a general level, they manifested a moralconservative position that made the exploitation of the national worker invisible, a furious
anti-communism and the adverse economic conditions faced by the peasants.
