Abstract
The purpose of this study is the development of English courses for specific purposes, both the research of the contents of the teaching and the methodology applied during the course, in this case a descriptive study was carried out in the quantitative research method through a survey addressed to the 57 participants from the communities of Miramar, Esparza, Orotina and Jacó; and at the same time a survey was applied for teachers who taught the English course for Beginner Tourist Assistance A. This course was taught under the project ED-3156 Bilingual Training in English for Specific Purposes of the University of Costa at the Pacific campus. On the other hand, the main findings show that the benefits obtained in English courses for specific purposes allow participants to achieve the acquisition of a tool of great value in any area of work, and also a 92.5% of the participants mentioned that the teaching techniques were concrete and facilitated the use of the language. So it is concluded that the research teacher must analyze what are the needs of the target population, must determine what are the language skills they need to use in the exercise of their profession, and they also need to analyze the real situations they will have to face using the second language in order to determine possible teaching strategies that can be used within the classroom.
