About the Journal
The Revista de Filosofía de la Universidad de Costa Rica is the primary publication of the Costa Rican philosophical community and is produced under the auspices of the School of Philosophy and the Institute for Philosophical Research at the University of Costa Rica. It was founded in 1957, making it one of the oldest periodicals dedicated to philosophy in the Americas. Since its foundation, it has continuously published philosophical contributions from all traditions, featuring —alongside national philosophers— articles and studies by thinkers of the caliber of Roderick Chisholm, George Santayana, Gerhard Funke, Ernest Lepore, Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka, Dieter Wyss, Bob Hale, Peter Asquith, Herbert Csef, Bernhard Waldenfels, Rodolfo Mondolfo, and Angel Cappelletti, among many others. The journal has also published previously unpublished translations of important documents, such as Richard Wisser’s interview with Heidegger and part of the correspondence between Dilthey and Husserl.
The journal’s philosophical breadth reflects a tradition within the Costa Rican philosophical community: historically cultivating a wide range of philosophical perspectives, both European and Anglo-American as well as Ibero-American.
In general terms, the journal publishes high-quality articles and book reviews from any area of philosophy that contribute to contemporary philosophical debates, targeting both the national and international philosophical community. Its primary language of publication is Spanish; however, it also accepts articles in English and has published (by invitation) contributions in French and German. It publishes three issues annually (January–April, May–August, September–December) and accepts submissions of unpublished manuscripts throughout the year.
All submitted manuscripts are subject to a double-blind, independent peer review process. The editorial team guarantees complete confidentiality for both authors and reviewers throughout the evaluation process.
The journal follows an open access editorial policy, making its specialized content freely and publicly available. Starting from issue 150, the journal adheres to the CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 CR license for the distribution of published material.
Due to its long history and uninterrupted publication for more than six decades, the Revista de Filosofía de la Universidad de Costa Rica is one of the most solid and stable periodicals in the Americas. Its thematic breadth and commitment to philosophical thought in all its forms also make it one of the most important philosophy journals in the Spanish language. We therefore encourage philosophers and researchers, as well as practitioners of philosophy in general, to submit their strictly unpublished manuscripts to join our publication project and become part of one of the few journals in its field with over one hundred issues published.
Additionally, we would like to inform you that we offer a range of services, including online submission management and access to the complete, up-to-date collection of our journal, from the very first issue in downloadable PDF format, among others.
