Abstract
The United States is the world leader in the production of knowledge in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) because of its long-standing tradition, public and private investment, experience and research projects applied to education. This article provides a synthesis on some of the main findings in research done in this country for the last ten years. The purpose of this study is to highlight the most important factors of success and failure that have been identified in relation with the use of ICT as a tool to improve and change teaching and learning. The pending tasks to take advantage of the potential of these technologies for education in general and for higher education in particular are also discussed.Comments
