Abstract
This article describes the level of discussion on democratic control mechanisms in the 2016 municipal electoral process in Costa Rica. The electoral and constitutional reforms of recent years have defined a legal and political order that demands greater citizen activity in the public affairs of municipalities. Therefore, it is important to delve into the instruments or mechanisms offered by political parties in terms of citizen participation and how they intend to use them in a possible municipal government.
